Identity Managed Service
Middlesex University is a large, modern university based in London, with over 30,000 students studying at globally distributed campuses in Dubai, Mauritius and Malta. In addition to this, the university operates a number of joint programmes with UK and overseas based partner organisations.
The University’s Strategic Plan 2012-2017 identifies the need to provide its students and staff worldwide with ‘convenient, reliable 24/7 access to networked resources’. To achieve this aim, the University’s IT Service identified a number of areas where Managed Service partners could assist in the delivery of services. One such area was the delivery of Identity Management systems.
In September 2014, ProofID was appointed to provide a fully managed service for the University’s Identity Management system, which is based upon Microsoft’s Forefront Identity Manager Technology. Under this arrangement, ProofID has taken full ownership of the University’s identity management system, and is responsible for monitoring, maintaining and developing the system in line with the University’s strategic objectives.
Immediate activities have included upgrading the system to the latest release, and extending the service to provide automated provisioning of staff accounts into Office 365. Longer term objectives include development of a robust and resilient authentication strategy to support the University’s increasing adoption of cloud based services.
